"Ghostbusters" Firehouse L.A. Dedication Stone Restoration

The Corporation for History art and Culture (CHAC) is now raising funds for phase 2, to restore important artifact.

As part of the initial effort to create a state of the art community cultural center in Los Angeles Historic Fire Station No.23 (which is famous as the interior set of the location of the movie “Ghostbusters”) Corporation for History Art and Culture is mounting a fundraising drive to restore the original Dedication Stone for the building which was part or the facade of the building from the time of its opening as a fire station in 1910 till the stones almost fatal collapse in 2004. At that time the newly formed CHAC (http://www.thechac.net/) along with the financial assistance of international artist Wim Wenders began the process of preserving and restoring the Old 23’s Dedication stone.

Mr. Wenders was at that time looking for a suitable location for his film “Land of Plenty” and thought the location perfect for his film. Immediately after production the pieces of the stone were saved organized numbered wrapped and stored for later assembly and framing in a sturdy encasement. The case will have a glass face for public viewing in the original spot in the front wall of Old 23’s.

This was the first project mounted by CHAC and illustrates the importance this organization places on preserving history for contemporary use and enjoyment. To learn more about the painstaking process that is required for such a project you may learn the full story on the CHAC web site at

The pictures and text tell a fascinating story of modern urban archeology and are the initial baby steps in a community’s effort to archive and care for its legacy and assets.
If you would like to be a part of history today please donate to the Dedication Plaque Fund.

CHAC will soon be announcing the release of the most complete history ever published of Historic Fire Station No.23. Titled;
The Downtown Los Angeles
Ghostbusters Firehouse

Los Angeles Historic Fire Station No.23

This will be followed next year with the 100 year anniversary edition of the history of Old 23’s from 1910 to the present.
